Occupational Therapy
I picked Occupational Therapy as one of my topics of interests because I'm interested in doing this as my major in college and would lie to learn more about this field. Occupational therapy and physical therapy I know are very similar but there is many difference. I know that OT helps you cope with your disability instead of trying to fix it like a physical therapist would. I am also interested in learning about the tips and tricks that the OTs learn to help out each of there patients. As I am researching this topic I have many questions that have come up and would like to find those answers too. So, I am using this class to find my answers to those questions. As an occupational therapist you are hired to help improve someone's life by showing the techniques to help cope with there disability .
I recently attended a shadowing session with an Occupational Therapist. It was a really great experience following her around and watching her work with the patients. They had just made a new facility for OT and its great. There's a kitchen and a makeshift apartment and bathroom so the patients can actually practice what they have to work on with there every day life's. They also has a car parked behind the building so they can practice getting in and out and even getting groceries out of the back of the car. With the outdoors they have a garden that the patents garden in and different types of terrain to walk on like stone, grass, cobble stone, rocks just so they can get used to walking on those surfaces.
